Some of my friends tell me that I have a pretty diverse set of interests, because I enjoy everything from rock-climbing to performing in improv shows. I’ve always been the kind of person that likes to try a little bit of everything, which is why when I start reading, I like to read books from many different genres.

One of my favorite books as of late is called “Into the Wild,” by Jon Krakauer. It follows the story of a young man, Chris McCandless, who gave away his savings of about $24,000 to embark on a trip living in nature. Having come from a privileged family and after attending a private university, he was looking for something greater out of life and wanted to find meaning in nature. He lived off of the land and found work when he needed to for himself for a couple of years, before eventually making a few small mistakes that ultimately cost him his life. It’s a fascinating tale, and his story is truly inspiring. Krakauer’s background as a journalist also allowed him to tell the story in an interesting and factual way.

After reading such a heavy book, I was happy to go lift my spirits a bit by watching some cabletelevision. However, it won’t be long before I’m inspired to go out and camp myself soon!

Of course, right after I offer to cook and host Thanksgiving dinner, my younger sister informs me that she’s going to bring her boyfriend from college with her. But then she tells me just a few days ago that her boyfriend is vegan, so that I should have some things that he can eat as a vegan. To put it mildly, I was a little irrritated that she didn’t tell me that before. I’ve never cooked any vegan friendly meals, so I’ve been spending a lot of my time trying to find recipes online that don’t sound like they’ll taste gross.
