I think How the Grinch Stole Christmas is the best animated Christmas movie. They usually air it on primetime TV several times between Thanksgiving and Christmas. I’ve enjoyed watching it every year since I was a small child. They’ve made different versions of it, but my favorite is the made-for-TV special released in 1966. I will set my DVR to record it via my Satalite TV Hi-Def again this year, and I will watch it with my son.
The TV special is based on the children’s book by Dr. Seuss. It’s about a grouchy but lovable creature called The Grinch. He hates Christmas, and so he decides to “steal” it by removing the Christmas decorations and presents from the houses of everyone in Whoville. However, Christmas lives in the hearts of the Whoville residents, and they still celebrate the holiday. The Grinch is moved by their caroling, and he soon joins in with them. I love the look of the cute, animated characters. I also like the narrator’s voice. I’m not sure who sings the song “You’re a Mean One, Mr. Grinch,” but I think that song is my favorite thing about the entire special. It’s quite an original song, and I can’t imagine Christmas without it.
